Wildebeest Migration Photo Safari - Feb 25 - Mar 6, 2026
In late February 2026 I will lead a private group of photographers to the Serengeti and for the Wildebeest Migration. This small group safari combines some of the finest wildlife photography anywhere, two of Tanzania’s best safari areas and hands-on photographic instruction. We have selected specific camps to create a private safari geared specifically toward serious photography and game viewing. This safari takes place during the calving season of the annual wildebeest migration in Tanzania’s Serengeti.
Tanzania, south of Kenya on the African continent's Indian Ocean coastline, lays claim to the title Home of the Safari, since the word itself is taken from the Swahili word that means "journey." While Tanzania's Kenyan neighbors may dispute that claim, there is no doubt that Tanzania offers one of the best environments in the world for an enriching wildlife experience. The country's game viewing opportunities are considered by many to be the best in Africa. Its game parks are populated with many of the world's most exotic creatures, including all of the "Big Five." Its lakes are huge and bountiful with fish. Its cities are relaxed and friendly. Yet, to a greater degree than is true of many of its neighbors, this sprawling country, the largest in East Africa, remains untouched by the vacationing hordes.

The Schedule
February 25, 2026 - Arrive Arusha, Tanzania
On your arrival in Tanzania (airport code JRO, Kilimanjaro International Airport) you will be met by our local representative, who will assist you with your bags and will drive you to Legendary Lodge. You will be assisted with your check-in, and depending on the time of day when you arrive you can lounge by the swimming pool, walk the beautiful grounds or enjoy a nice meal on the veranda.
Overnight Gran Meliá Hotel
February 26, 2026
After an early breakfast we will drive through Arusha and to the airstrip, in order to fly to the mighty Serengeti. The flight to our first camp will take a little over an hour and the scenery underneath us will be vast and breathtaking. When we land it’s time to get into safari mode, so we will get going to see that the southern short grass plains of the Serengeti has in store for us. The short grass plains of the southern Serengeti is where the annual wildebeest calving season will be taking place. Millions of wildebeest, along with hundreds of thousands zebra, make their way to the southern short grass plains at this time to the year to give birth, as it is the area that has rich soils and rich grasses. These grasses yield the best milk for their offspring.
Overnight at our Luxury Migration Camp
February 27 - March 3, 2026
Full days out on safari in the southern Serengeti short grass plains. This safari coincides with the annual wildebeest and zebra calving season, so we will spend time away from camp looking for the largest herds, hunting cheetah, lion prides and anything else we find. This is my favorite time of the year to witness the migration, as there is plenty to see and plenty of space to spread out and be by ourselves.
March 3, 2026
After our morning game drive we will fly from the southern Serengeti and towards the western corridor of the Serengeti. The flight will take around 45 minutes and when we land you will notice that the landscape and environment has completely changed. With rolling hills and taller grasses, the area is home to a large number of resident wildlife.
This region of the Serengeti is one of our favorite locations, as it has a large population of lions and consistently delivers some of our best lion sightings in all of Africa.
We will spend three nights in our permanent luxury camp (currently under construction and will be open in July 2025)
March 4-5, 2026 - Serengeti National Park (Western/Central)
Another full day in the Serengeti. The western/central Serengeti has the Grumeti River running through it and it supports a wide array of wildlife throughout the year, including numerous prides that we love to spend our time with.
March 6, 2026 - Serengeti National Park (South) to Arusha
Today is the last day in Tanzania, and we will have wildlife viewing en route to the airstrip for our flight back to Arusha Airport, where we will be met and driven back to Gran Meliá Hotel. We have arranged for day rooms for everyone, so you can use your time as you see fit. Clean up, repack your bag, have an enjoyable meal, go for a swim or relax on your porch of your cottage. We will transfer to you Kilimanjaro International Airport in time for your international flight back home.
NOTE: Customized extensions to this safari, including Kenya, mountain gorillas in Rwanda, additional time on safari in Tanzania, Kenya, the beaches of Zanzibar and other destinations may be arranged through us as desired. Ask us for further information.
The Cost
The cost of this all-inclusive safari is $14,750 per person. This fee includes all in-country ground and air transportation as well as hotel accommodation (double occupancy) and all meals.

Please note: We will attempt to adhere to this itinerary as much as possible. However, certain conditions (political, climatic, environmental, cultural, or wildlife migrations) may necessitate changes in the itinerary.
