Frequently Asked Questions

Interested in going on a photographic safari?

Have you dreamed of taking the ultimate photography trip, by going on an African safari, to visit the countless and varied wildlife, combined with vivid landscapes? If asked, most photographers would tell you that an African photo safari would be their dream destination for their photographic interests. African safaris allow you to experience the wildlife up close and in their own element. I was very surprised when I first went to the Serengeti and saw just how many varieties of wildlife there are to photograph. The quantity and quality of subjects to photograph while on safari make for the richest photography on the planet. Now is the time to visit Africa.

But what if you want to go, but know absolutely *nothing* about what safari options are available? Well, here is a primer that will hopefully answer those first questions.

Why go on a photographic safari?

These classic African safaris will feature all the stunning wildlife viewing opportunities that Tanzania has to offer, with one special bonus: you will be traveling in the company of a professional photographer. Suitable for all levels of photographic experience, these safari “workshops” will encourage you to ask questions, try out different techniques, experiment with dramatic lighting and learn from not only your leader, but from other members of your group.

One of our experienced naturalist guides will take you, and photographer Andy Biggs, to explore beautiful Lake Manyara, stunning Ngorongoro Crater and the breathtaking plains of the Serengeti. We will travel by Land Rover (with a maximum of three passengers per vehicle to ensure ample space for your equipment), and we will spend each night in comfortable safari lodges. This will allow us to relax and savor our beautiful surroundings, but it will also afford us the ability to clean or recharge our gear as we go. The instruction will be casual and flexible taking into account everyone’s level of skill and bearing in mind that Africa and its wildlife are by definition wild and unpredictable!

What makes a photographic safari different from other safaris?

Our photographer’s safari features…

* Casual lectures, briefings or workshops appropriate to each day’s activities

* Pacing that will suit everyone’s photographic needs.
* An environment conducive to learning from one another—no question is off limits, no inquiry too basic.
* A pre departure packet with safari advice as well as film and equipment recommendations
* Destinations to the most scenic places, with the most abundant wildlife!

When are your trips?

Scroll above for an up-to-date listing of departure dates.

What if these dates don't work for me, or perhaps I am interested in a private safari?

If you are looking at different dates, or if you are looking for a private safari, I can also assit you. I do understand that not all safaris work for everybody's timeframe or specific needs. With this in mind, I can book a private safari for you with the same amenities, guides and vehicles that I use for the safaris that I lead. Your schedule. Your specific itinerary. Your private group. I have access to the best guides, and they have worked with me extensively in the past, and know what photographers need from a safari.

What are your accommodations like?

We have three main types of accommodations on our trips: Game lodges, semi-permanent tented camps and luxury 'Classic' camps. All of our accommodations are clean, and privide private en suite bathroom facilities. On our luxury Classic camp locations, each private tent comes with beds and bed sheets, private restroom facilities and a pull chain hot shower. All camping is extremely safe, and our guides and camp staff are there to please. We even have cold wine and beer available out in the bush. All of our digital camera electrical needs are handled, as we have a custom made tent for recharging our laptops, cameras and iPods!
